Here is a look at all the fishing trips we took in the Year 2000!

August 15, 2000:

Corey with his 3 foot shark!I have been looking forward to this weekend for a full year. On August 13, 1999, I took Corey Readnour and his dad Rick from Conway, Arkansas fishing for grouper. Corey is the six year old seen holding the big grouper on "The Trip" page of this web site. Corey and Ric returned this year with one thing on their mind...to catch a shark. Plans were made to leave at 7:00 A.M. on Saturday, August the 12th. Bait fish were caught, chum was prepared, tackle was rigged, and MISS TEAK was made ready for the trip.

................BUT.................

Rick and Corey ReadnourMother Nature had a different plan. Winds were out of the West at 15-20 knots and the seas were running 5 to 7 feet off shore. Not a good day for fishing...." PLAN-B"... Bobby, who works at the Moorings, gave me the numbers to his favorite shark hole in the bay where the seas were not as rough. We took "LIL TEAK" and things began to look better. Almost too good...we anchored....we chummed...we sent down a live bait... we caught a three foot long shark...we came home...we made plans for next August...and most of all.... WE HAD A GREAT TIME! So...

Miss Teak has completed her yearly check up and is back in the water ready to go fishing. She spent eight days in dry-dock and has had a new paint job, props have been balanced, the teak wood has been cleaned and oiled, and the hull has been waxed. All she needs now is a charter so...

June 26, 2000:

On June 24th, we took Tim Carroll, his sister, her friend Gail, and the crew from Summit Homes of Albany off shore for a day of fishing. Grouper, red snapper, ruby lip snapper, and one very nice king mackerel were the catches of the day. A lot of action and a lot of fun was had by all and the day ended with an eight foot shark which put up a great fight before it was released to be played another day.

SharkJune 12, 2000:

Sam Brown, Bill and Beverly Hoffman, Allen Dalton, Daryl Wiggins, and his friend Tim went fishing with me this pass weekend. The seas were five and six feet in the morning and we got a late start but we made up for it later in the day. The catch was a true smorgasbord consisting of some good size grouper, Spanish mackerel, ruby lip snapper, black bass, a small shark and king mackerel.

Miss Teak will not be chartering for the next few days as she is scheduled to go on dry dock this week for her annual check-up and bottom painting. I plan to make some improvements in the electronics department as well as prop adjustment. Next trip is scheduled for 24 June so until then...

June 5, 2000:

Took Andy Pizi and friends out Saturday. It was one of those days that if it could go wrong, it did. Caught a dozen bait fish and headed to our first stop. Pump failure in the live well and all live baits died. Switched to dead bait and caught a hand full of grouper and a few grunts. Went off shore thirty miles to our next spot and had no luck at all. The seas picked up in the afternoon. Came back in to shallow water and caught another five or six grouper, some grunts and black bass. Next we headed home and as we came in the mouth of the Carrabelle River, ran high and dry on a sand bar. Andy and his friends got a ride in and I stayed with the boat until high tide the next morning.

Well...A charter boat captain knows there are four things that you can count on in this business. First ...You don't fill the boat up with fish every trip no matter how hard you work at it. Second ...Everyone, no matter how salty they are, will get seasick once in a while. The third thing you can count on happening is sooner or later you will run aground and have to wait for the tide to come in to get off. And, the fourth sure thing is someday you will have mechanical or electrical problems and have to be towed in. The only way to avoid these problems is to keep your boat on a trailer in the back yard and buy your fish from someone who has or will experience these sure to happen adventures... I say it's worth it so...

Great Fishing!Friday was a great day for fishing. Joe Crafton and some of his friends from Madison, Florida, made it a better than great day for me. We started off catching a dozen live baits near the sea buoy and then went to our first stop. After catching a few grouper and grunts, we moved to deep water and each caught their limit of amberjack. A few more stops and we ended the day with a nice catch of grouper, amberjack, and a good size shark.

Joe Crafton and Friends

Angie Durbin with Two Groupers!Saturday was another great day. Jason Durbin (Web designer of this site), his wife Angie, and his dad John joined us for a beautiful morning on the sea. As the day grew older, King Neptune kicked up the wind and the waves a little, but at the end of the day we all had a good time as well as a cooler full of grouper, ruby lip snapper, and black bass.

Hope to take you soon...

May 8, 2000:

We took Mike and Lisa Starbuck, from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, out for a day of fishing Saturday and we had a GREAT time. The seas were very rough in the morning but these two were salty enough to hang in there and it paid off. Mike limited out on grouper and added Spanish mackerel, rock bass, ruby lip snapper, and a few black bass to the cooler. The fishing has been great this spring so...

What two things do Ken, Neal, Rusty, Butch and Rick have in common? They are all managers of a South Georgia Discount Auto Parts store and they all can catch fish... BIG fish at that!

AT LAST MOTHER NATURE HAS LET US FISH. Took Paul Hughs and friends out last Saturday and had a great trip. Spanish mackerel, grouper, ruby lip snapper, black bass and an extra large trigger fish made our day. Tarpon were sited in the river and the pompano are chasing after the sand flea on the beach. The big king mackerels are also in close as proven by a friend, Bob Howell (he had the picture to prove it). Lots of fish and the weather is better so...

April 12, 2000:

Didn't get to fish this week. The trip for Friday was canceled due to sickness and the trips for Saturday and Sunday were rescheduled because of rough seas. The weekend was not a total lost as we got a lot of boat work done. Sometimes it seems like it takes three days of work for each day of fishing.

Here is some GREAT NEWS for you! We have a new Captain at Miss Teak Charters. My son, Jason, passed his U.S. Coast Guard exam with flying colors and was sworn in Monday. I am one proud father and know we will have a lot of fun taking you all fishing so.....

April 24, 2000:

The fish have been biting GREAT for the pass few days. My wife Paula, Jason, and I went out yesterday and fished for two hours. We caught six big groupers, four red snappers, and a few black bass. The freezer sure looks better with those fish in it.

March 13, 2000:

All trips for last weekend had to be canceled. King Neptune was having fun making five to eight foot splashes in his sea and we all know that is a little uncomfortable for fishing. The weekend wasn't a total loss. One of my deckhands "Paul" and I spent three days oiling teak, sanding and painting engines, repairing tackle, and cleaning out tackle boxes. I have two trips scheduled for this weekend so hope for good weather!

March 20, 2000:

What month is it?... MARCH...Fishing is great, Weather is terrible. Twenty mile a hour plus winds all weekend put the stops on everyone's fishing plans in our area. High seas and rain do not make for a pleasant trip. Better weather this week I hope!
